Brief

Designing e-commerce packaging that lives long in the memory is always a challenge, especially when the go-to-market solution must double up as a secure transit box to protect products during shipping. This was the brief we received from a growing online retailer specialising in selling a sought-after range of healthy herbal teas.

The goal of the project was to design a durable and rigid corrugated transit box which revealed a memorable, premium and considered unboxing experience. The brand wanted to create a powerful brand touchpoint that would nurture consumer loyalty and repeat purchases.

With a limited budget, we were unable to utilise luxury coatings, embellishments or premium substrates. Our packaging designers, therefore, needed to be creative to make a humble brown corrugated cardboard box stand out

The Solution

To keep the project within budget, we focused on cost-effective, alternative methods for delivering a memorable transit and unboxing experience. 

First we designed a robust outer box, which was paired with a bespoke internal fitment. This secured the product in transit and present it cleanly when the box was opened.

Our designers employed structure, pacing, and restraint to build anticipation as the customer opened the box. Each fold, reveal, and printed message was designed with the objective of guiding the customer through a purposeful e-commerce packaging journey.

Flexographic print was used sparingly but confidently, allowing the natural kraft board to do the talking. This approach also reinforced the brand’s honest, no-nonsense positioning.

The final packaging solution adhered to all necessary transit protection requirements while remaining within budget and delivering a memorable unboxing experience. By focusing on structure and simplicity, we transformed a standard corrugated box into a brand-building touchpoint that successfully reinforced the values of quality, care, and innovation.
