Manufacturers often need to transport and protect high-value items such as large-format digital displays over long distances, sometimes not just nationally, but globally. When transporting expensive and precious goods, packaging plays a vital role in making sure the products arrive in one piece – reducing the chances of costly returns and negative customer feedback.
With the tech and electronics sectors predicted to boom in the coming years, especially with the anticipated advances in robotics and automation, packaging has never had a more vital role to play in how high value goods are shipped.
Our team recently collaborated with an established electronics manufacturer with the goal of safely transporting valuable technology products on a global scale. Here’s how we overcame this latest challenge.
The customer is an established manufacturer of large-format digital displays and in our initial conversations, we quickly realised that each digital display represents a significant investment. We have been fortunate enough to partner with the team for many years, working across multiple projects thanks to our reputation for ensuring their expensive products, often worth several thousands of pounds, are consistently protected in transit.
Throughout the packaging design phase, we needed to ensure that the eventual packaging solution would minimise risk, and the chances of costly transit damage due to the fragile nature of each screen.
The digital screens are shipped worldwide, which opens up numerous risk windows within the transportation and handling timeline. Damaged goods would likely result in items being rejected and returned at the expense of the manufacturer. This is not only a costly exercise, but risks the manufacturer having expensive products that are surplus to requirements, eating into their bottom line and losing them valuable repeat custom.
When our packaging designers assessed the product, they decided the best approach was to develop a bespoke protective packaging system using high-strength corrugated board, combined with tailored PE foam inserts.
The corrugated board provided exceptional structural integrity, protecting the digital displays from impact, compression forces, and the rigours of global transport networks.
Bespoke PE foam supports securely held each electronic screen in place, eliminating internal movement during transit. The foam also created a protective cushioning effect, absorbing shock and vibration to safeguard the displays if boxes were accidentally dropped or mishandled. Anti-static foam can also be an option for projects of this nature should the product require it.
The new packaging solution delivered a significant improvement in product protection, greatly reducing the risk of transit damage to high-value products. The combination of rigid outer protection and impact-absorbing internal cushioning, ensured the displays arrived at their destination safely, regardless of shipping distance.
Our focus on a secure, movement-free design made the packaging suitable for worldwide distribution, improving customer satisfaction and reducing the risk of replacing damaged goods at the manufacturer’s expense.
The final design proved to be reliable and cost-effective, giving the customer confidence in shipping their valuable electronic displays anywhere in the world.
If you’re a manufacturer looking for additional peace of mind with transporting your high-value electronic or robotic goods, then our bespoke design service could be just what you’ve been searching for. Our designers are on hand to answer your questions and deliver the perfect solution.
