Case Study: Brixton Gin

Brief

Our team was recommended to Brixton-based gin distillery, Brixton Gin, by Poucher – a specialist designer and supplier of drinks pouches.

The team at Brixton Gin were searching for a reputable packaging provider that it could trust to create a tailored, environmentally friendly transit box with capacity for six drinks pouches.

Our brief was to design these bespoke boxes ahead of the launch of Brixton Gin’s own sustainable drinks pouch solution, with the finished corrugated boxes used to deliver the pouches to customers across the UK.

Our in-house design team brings many years of experience using CAD software to design the perfect boxes and fittings for a wide range of products, including drinks pouches, so this was a challenge that spoke to our skillset.

Thanks to an established partnership with Poucher from previous projects, the team kindly put us forward as the perfect supplier for Brixton Gin’s exciting opportunity. Our team had a tight deadline to source, design and deliver the right corrugated solution – so we needed to get to work quickly in order to meet the deadline.

Solution

Refillable drinks pouches have become increasingly popular because of their ability to make storing and consuming beverages more sustainable for both brands and shoppers.

Brixton Gin wanted to speak to the environmentally conscious shopper by offering customers the option of purchasing a box of six pouches, enjoying the contents, and posting the pouches back to be reused. Brixton pouches can be Freepost recycled by end-users, with Poucher simply collecting, sorting and recycling them. Poucher also has plans to offer refill pouches with recycled content – further enhancing circularity within the packaging industry.

Poucher’s solution generates only 10% of the CO2 emissions produced by an equivalent glass bottle and when married with a sustainable corrugated transit box, Brixton Gin would be able to ship its highly sought after spirits while dramatically reducing its carbon footprint. This project therefore aligned perfectly with our own environmental targets and credentials.

To kick things off, we had an initial consultation with the client in order to gain a thorough understanding of the brief, before sourcing samples which we felt would deliver the perfect solution.

When choosing the right packaging sample, it was important for us to consider how the transit boxes would best showcase the brand, accommodate the pouches, and protect them from becoming damaged in transit – while making best use of the available space. Our proven track record of partnering with brands in the food and drink sector allowed us to recommend and deliver a solution that fully met the requirements of the team at Brixton Gin.

The finished transit boxes were cost-effective and the perfect size for the six Poucher pouches – with the solution brought to market in early 2023.
