Brief:

A leading pharmaceutical manufacturer required secure, sustainable and professional-looking packaging for a medical injection pen to be distributed to clinics and hospitals across Europe. The pens needed packaging that reflected clinical precision while providing robust protection during transit.

The objective was to develop a box and sleeve structure that:

  • Secured the pen firmly to prevent damage during shipping
  • Emphasised hygiene and professionalism
  • Aligned with sustainability goals
  • Allowed for efficient manual or automated packing processes

Solution:

We designed a rigid tray-style box which housed the pen snugly, with a slip-on sleeve to provide additional protection and surface area for branding and information. The interior cradle was custom-cut, to accommodate the unique shape of the pen which helped prevent any shifting during shipment and we integrated glue flaps and perforated tear strips at one end of the sleeve to ensure the product’s integrity upon delivery.

We chose 1500-micron white lined grey board for its structural strength, excellent print surface for high-quality branding and recyclability which would contribute to the company’s environmental footprint. This material offered the durability needed for global logistics while maintaining a clean, clinical aesthetic with white matte laminated exterior and single-colour brand logo.

By working with us, the company were able to reduce damage rate to their products by 98% during transport and handling, compared to previous clamshell-style plastic packaging. They were also able to hit their sustainability targets for 2025, thanks to the material’s 100% recyclability, while simultaneously streamlining production and fulfilment operations and improving the unboxing experience for the end user.
