Kevin Pole – 30 years’ service

Congratulations to Kevin for 30 years’ service at Colton Packaging.

Kevin started out on 6th November 1978 as a warehouseman when the business traded as William Colton and Sons from Harding Street in Leicester. In those days the job was very physical. None of the stock was stored on pallets, much of it being rope, twine and wrapping paper, which was “handballed” in and out, without the use of fork lifts. Having built up his biceps, he got his job as commercial truck driver only a few months later, just weeks after passing his driving test, when his predecessor left without giving much notice.

Kevin has shown tremendous reliability and loyalty ever since. He is friendly and courteous to our customers, as well as being an excellent driver who has not had a single accident. A solid team player, Kevin is also happy to operate one of the fork lift trucks, mainly loading or unloading pallets of corrugated cases. He is always keen to complete the day’s deliveries, whatever the level of demand.

He has, of course, driven a range of vehicles for the business, passing his HGV1 test in 1990 at the first attempt along the way. He has enjoyed driving his current truck, a Mercedes Atego 1823 18 tonner, from new. It has the heaviest load carrying capacity of our fleet of seven trucks.

We wanted to put a photograph on this page of Kevin standing in front of his truck, but he declined the offer. That epitomises his modesty and, to a lesser extent, his shyness.

A lifelong supporter of Leicester City FC with a weakness for Manchester United as well, Kevin can now be seen at weekends patrolling the touchlines, watching his son Brennan start his football career.

The directors would like to thank Kevin for his massive contribution and hope that he continues to enjoy working with us.
